Anyone who has a SHIH TZU at home have to teach him to start with some basic commands “paw and sit”. You can learn better to a puppy because with adult SHIH TZU it can take a few hours more. Learning occurs gradually, but training needs to have a ‘reward’

How to teach SHIH TZU to paw

If you don’t know how to get SHIH TZU to give the paw, the first tip is to make him sit down first.
If he doesn’t already know this command, see the next paragraph on how to teach him.
After he has sat down, put a cookie in his hand and place it in front of SHIH TZU’s snout.
He will first try to open his hand with his mouth and then he will try with his paws.
When he does, give him the treat. Repeat this trick until he tries to take the reward without using his mouth.

After you see that the SHIH TZU is getting used to it, pass the empty hand and reward the SHIH TZU with the other hand, but only after he gives his paw to the empty hand.

Start saying ‘touch here’ or ‘give paw’ so that he makes the association, but only before he gives the paw. Once you have taught the dog how to give the paw, you no longer need to reward him, but you can still praise or pet the SHIH TZU.

How to teach him to sit

To teach the SHIH TZU to sit, first have him have your attention, then with a treat in hand, lift him up high in a way that he cannot reach you, but can see you.

When your puppy gets tired, he will sit down, and that’s when you should give him the award.

After a while, the animal will see that if the owner has a treat in his hand and he sits down, he will win it. When he learns this, start saying sit’ before he is fully seated, you can mark the ‘sit-tá’ syllables well. In this way, he will learn to associate the command with its sitting action.
