An expert from Harvard University concluded that when Shih Tzus dream, they are dreaming of us, their owners. The lives of Shih Tzus revolve around humans, with whom they share their days, but sometimes we do things that negatively impact their emotional well-being.

Here we show you the 5 mistakes that owners make that can emotionally hurt their Shih Tzus.

  1. Rubbing their nose in pee

Even if you have trained your Shih Tzu to go to the bathroom properly, accidents can happen. When a Shih Tzu urinates in an inappropriate place, it can be a sign of some physical or emotional problem.

Forcing them to smell the pee, your Shih Tzu doesn’t understand what you’re trying to tell them. They won’t learn not to make the same mistake, they will only feel scared and hurt.

  1. Not playing with them enough

Your Shih Tzu needs to spend time with you. A pat on the head once in a while is not enough.

No matter how busy you are, you should organize your schedule to have quality time with your puppy. A Shih Tzu’s happiness depends on the amount of attention they receive from their owner.

  1. Punishing for fearful behavior

When a Shih Tzu tucks its tail between its legs, it’s because they are scared or uncomfortable. Some people confuse this sign with aggression. Don’t shout at them, they need to feel safe with you.

  1. Being inconsistent with the rules

We’re all a little guilty of this, but yes, it’s really important to stay firm with the rules. You can’t allow your Shih Tzu to get on the bed one day and not the next. Be strong and set the rules.

  1. Keeping them apart

If you keep them away from their family, you are hurting them. You are their universe. A Shih Tzu cannot be alone; they have to belong to a pack, and in this case, it would be their humans or their siblings. Don’t lock your Shih Tzu in a cage or closed yard. They need our attention and affection.
