When it comes to fruits, we immediately think of health. But it’s not that simple. The Shih Tzu’s body is quite different from ours, and certainly, not everything that’s good for us is good for them as well.

Therefore, it’s important to know which fruits Shih Tzu cannot eat to avoid including them in their diet at all costs.

The advice is not to try to offer anything to the Shih Tzu, such as food or water. Quick attention to the Shih Tzu’s needs will make all the difference, so seek veterinary care immediately.

And always consult your trusted professional to find out if there are contraindications for the fruit you want to give to your Shih Tzu.

Fruits that Shih Tzu cannot eat:

1. Passion Fruit
2. Grapes
3. Açaí
4. Starfruit
5. Fig
6. Tomato

Despite the numerous beneficial effects that passion fruit can have on Shih Tzu, such as being a calming and anxiolytic agent (these properties are present in the leaves), Shih Tzu cannot eat passion fruit in its natural form. This is because it’s recommended to only give the fruit pulp without the peel, seeds, and leaves. Since it’s very difficult to separate all of these components and offer only the pulp to dogs, the recommendation is not to offer passion fruit to Shih Tzu.

Shih Tzu cannot eat Grapes
Any type of grape, whether fresh or dried, should not be offered to Shih Tzu as it is toxic. Grapes can lead to kidney problems, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and even death.

Shih Tzu cannot eat Açaí
Açaí is rich in theobromine, the same substance found in chocolate, which can cause intoxication in dogs. Therefore, you should not give açaí to your Shih Tzu.

Shih Tzu cannot eat Starfruit
Starfruit contains a natural toxin that can cause kidney problems in Shih Tzu, with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, tremors, blood in the urine, among others.

Shih Tzu cannot eat Fig
In excess, figs can trigger allergic reactions, vomiting, and diarrhea. Therefore, it’s not recommended to give figs to dogs.

Shih Tzu cannot eat Tomato
Offering tomatoes to Shih Tzu is also a controversial matter. When ripe, some experts do not prohibit offering them to Shih Tzu, as long as it’s done in moderation.

These are the main fruits from our daily lives that your Shih Tzu cannot eat.
