The Shih Tzu is among the least intelligent dog breeds in the world, according to a ranking. This breed, known for being affectionate, was created to be a lap dog in royalty, not requiring much intellect.
This list, based on a canine IQ test developed by Stanley Coren, ranks dogs’ intelligence based on the ease of learning commands. The Shih Tzu, ranked tenth, showed deficiency in many areas of adaptive intelligence.
Other breeds like the Basset Hound, Beagle, and Pekingese are also on the list. Bassets, originally bred for hunting, have difficulty in maintaining attention. Beagles, known for their gentleness, take a long time to learn and quickly forget what they have learned. Pekingese, while courageous, are hard to train.
The Bloodhound, known for its sense of smell, and the Borzoi, famous for its speed, are also on the list. Chow Chow, English Bulldog, Basenji, and Afghan Hound complete the selection of the least intelligent breeds.
Despite being less intelligent in terms of learning commands, each breed has unique characteristics and admirable qualities. Therefore, a dog’s intelligence goes beyond its ability to learn tricks, and it is important to value its individual characteristics and unconditional love.
