Hello,
I am the one who always waits for you. Your car has a special sound, and I can recognize it among a thousand.
Your footsteps have a magical tone; they are music to me. Your voice is the greatest sign of my happiness, and sometimes you don’t even need to say anything.
When I feel your sadness, I try to make you smile. If I see that you are happy, how that makes me joyful! I don’t know what the best scent in the air is, but I do know that your perfume is the best.
I like some presences, but not others. However, your presence is the one that stirs my senses.
Your gaze is a beam of light when I realize you are waking up. Your hands on me carry the gentleness of peace. And when you leave, everything is empty again.
And so, I wait for you always and forever. Until you return once more.
Waiting for the sound of your car… For your footsteps… For your voice… For your scent… For your rest under my watch at night… For your gaze… For your hands petting me. I am the one who waits for you. I am your dog! And I am happy to be so!
I never asked you to make me look beautiful, or to train me. I also don’t ask for good food or trips to the vet, or anything at all. If you don’t have a nice leash, you can put me on a rope or leave me free.
I promise I won’t leave. If you can’t buy me a little house, I will settle for a small cloth on the floor. Wherever you put me, I will always protect you.
Don’t dock my tail or trim my ears. I promise to be loyal when I need to defend you. If I break something, forgive me; I don’t know what I’m doing when I’m playing with your things, I don’t know the value of your objects, and I don’t damage them on purpose.
All I ask is for a little affection now and then, and a small piece of bread; the rest, give me only if you wish.
If only I could speak, how many beautiful words I would say to you. If you knew how happy I am when I walk with you, even if you don’t notice, I am very happy!
And if I am old now, and I gave you my best years, don’t leave me on the street. And if I caused you any harm, with this tear you see coming from my eyes, I ask for your forgiveness.
Yes, I am an animal, I am a dog created by God, but we dogs also feel and have a heart.
The day will come when I depart from this life, and I want you to know that in the dogs’ heaven, I will always be grateful for everything you did for me, and especially for the years we spent together.
With affection,
Your great friend and son Shih Tzu.
