Latam Airlines has banned the travel in the airplane’s cargo hold for certain breeds of dogs and cats. The company has published a list of prohibited breeds on its website, including those considered dangerous and brachycephalic, which have flat faces and difficulty breathing and regulating heat in the environment.
Animals of these breeds will only be allowed to travel in the cabin of the aircraft from now on, provided they meet the conditions for transportation.
“For the safety and well-being of your pets, we cannot transport certain brachycephalic and/or dangerous breeds in the lower part of the aircraft (cargo hold). If your pet is one of these breeds on the list, you may only take it aboard the aircraft cabin, provided it meets the conditions for in-cabin transportation,” Latam stated in a communication.
To travel in the cabin, the pet must weigh up to 7 kg, including the weight of the carrier or transport box. Additionally, it will only be allowed on authorized routes, provided there are enough seats in the aircraft cabin.
