When your Shih Tzu rests their head on your lap, gives you affectionate looks, and gets excited every time you come home, it means they have formed a strong bond with you.
When we bring a pet into our home, we often wonder if they will become attached to us. In some cases, this attachment happens almost instantly, while in others, it may take a bit longer. Dogs, especially those who have had a difficult and challenging start in life, may take more time to overcome fear and trust people again.
However, with time and love, they gradually become more connected to their families and develop a strong bond.
Here are four signs that your Shih Tzu has formed a strong attachment to you:
- They don’t try to escape every time you open the door.
We have mentioned before that it can be a natural behavior for a Shih Tzu to attempt to leave the house occasionally. However, if they don’t exhibit this behavior as often, it can also indicate that they are so attached to you that they don’t feel the need to venture out into the world. Despite their curiosity, they won’t have the same desperate desire to leave every time you open the door.
- They rest their head on your lap.
Not all Shih Tzus enjoy hugs, but when your pet lays their head on your lap, feet, or any part of your body, it signifies that they trust you and have developed a strong bond with you.
- Affectionate gazes.
A Shih Tzu that isn’t attached to you or is more fearful won’t gaze at you often. When your pet becomes more attached to you, you will start to notice these affectionate gazes, and you will feel their happiness and love through their eyes.
- They miss you and show it.
An indifferent dog doesn’t usually make a big fuss when someone returns home. However, if your Shih Tzu starts greeting you with excitement every time you come back, it means they are attached to you and miss you when you’re away.
